Moo, Baa, Oink

Some farm animal cuteness coming your way. Who can resist that?
These were taken last Wednesday, a particularly lovely, sunny day which saw me traipsing around the place, checking out what the other locals at the Family Farm were doing in the warm morning sun.
I think they were enjoying it as much as I was.

Some young ones spending some time in the yards enjoying gourmet food.

Lambs exploring at about 1 and 1/2 weeks old.

Piglets about 1 and 1/2 weeks old.

New piglets, 1 or 2 days old.

Some piggies a few months old.

Visiting my Roots

Okay, last post I was high in the air and landing in Brisbane. This one I have made it to the family farm, phew! Now this was Monday, almost a fortnight ago (maybe exactly a fortnight when you read this).

Of cause, other than saying hello and dumping my stuff all the way from the back door to my old bedroom (sorry Mum, old habits die hard), one of the first must do things is getting outside and re-orientating.

Another must do is the piglet check ...

'Come on, I can see you with that food.'

There were four litters of varying ages.

Dinner time!

What a cutie (excuse the poop).

Then there were the older ones. The pork chops, the pork roasts and ...

On the move.

 ... the ham. Yum!

Only survivor and hand raised this 'ham' is heading for the freezer.

Peek-a-boo (love this shot for some reason)

Decorated tree. Can you see the moon way up high?

Little Pig, Little Pig

On the 11th of Oct (I can't believe I haven't posted this until now) one of the sows had 9 piglets. They were so very cute. She had 5 black with white markings, 3 roan and one white with black spots. Unfortunately only one survived as for some reason she decided they weren't hers and it also happened to be in the middle of a cold snap. The one that remains, one of the blacks, is thriving sucking of the other sows.

Here are the last lot of piglets on that same day ... big healthy PIGS that they are.

This Little Piggy ...

Knock, knock, knock ... knock, knock, knock. I had seen Miss S whizz past the window of the quarters and now she was insistently knocking on the door. I opened it and in a puffed and garbled rush she excitedly blurted out "the pig's got piglets, I think there are seven, there are black ones and a spotty one and brown ones." I grabbed my camera and down to the pig pen we trotted "See look she's over there!" And there laying down in the back of the orchard cum pig pen was a black hairy lump with piggy ears sticking up and a few (eight as we found out) squirmy bodies and tails could just be seen through the dead grass.

One big black ear and 8 wriggly little bodies.

Snuggling in for cuddles under Mum's leg.

Mum and babies.

2 brown, 5 black, 1 spotty

Pile up.

Feed time!

Bit squishy but cosy and warm.

The spotty piglet.

Now that looks comfortable.

I love you Mum xo

Kisses

This reminds me of home, excitedly going to check out the new piglets that have arrived while you aren't looking. There is a bit of a difference in the colour and breed though ... well actually a big one, especially as the pigs here are feral ones or feral crosses. Still doesn't change how cute they are.
