A Rainy Sunrise

I looked out the window this morning and thought, 'maybe.'

I looked out the window again an bit later and thought, 'let's do this.'

Sunrise, I always love to do it, to meet with it, to welcome it with open arms (well except when I'd rather be asleep but sunrise suddenly makes me not want to be asleep so ...).

And as I am usually up anyway I try my best to watch it.

Yes, I am obsessed.

I rarely go anywhere without my camera and I swear I am making it my mission to capture every sunrise going.

It is my thing.

I think it comes from my station days. 

I would be up and raring to go before pretty much everyone else and so started taking photos of the sunrises, going for a wander, just relaxing and mentally preparing for the day.

I did sunsets to. They brought me down and calmed me after a busy day.

It was never a big deal if I missed one though.

It isn't really now but I prefer not to, or at least not to leave my camera behind when I go somewhere.

I think it is because it is that one thing that still seems like 'that' me. The camera is still there, in my hands and it is just the view that has changed. It has been something I've clung to for dear life, my life raft or sorts. I can't say uprooting and starting a 'city' life has been all roses.

What has gotten me through is the fact that I wanted to get out and take photos of something, which lead me to explore (and that bit of knowledge that we won't be here forever).

As much as I love the beach, the waterfalls, the green I really do miss taking photos of dead grass and barbed wire. Maybe if I look around hard enough ...

I honestly had no idea I was going to write any of this. I swear I had some funny thing in my head to share or something but it got lost and this is what came out instead. Hmmm. 

 Maybe I just felt that it needed said. Maybe I am reminiscing a bit too.

Anyway ... as housework was struck from being mentioned after the last post, what else can I say.

Oooh, I do have some exciting news to share but you are just going to have to sit on that for a bit and wonder what it is.

Ahh, my bag is packed and ready for a flight. Obviously that isn't the exciting news, even though it is exciting.

I saw another silly nincompoop do a weird overtaking thing, changing lanes and then changing back right at a set of lights.

I've been looking in the mirror and thinking I really should start caring for my skin a little more but then I remember that practically anything I can put on my skin to do that gives me pimples. What is with that? Hello skin, I am a grown up. Speaking of which the weather here at the moment is also rather horrific for my complexion. Can the humidity just ping off for a bit please. Oh, I also need to remember to actually wear the sunnies I have rather than just cart them around in my bag.

 I found someone at work tonight that made my skin look tanned, and that is saying something.

Oh, and I have managed to collect multiple copies of Les Mis. I guess I liked that movie, or I just have a really bad memory. The sad thing is that it isn't the only one.

Another thing, I've had my sewing machine sitting on the table for month with plans to use it while I have no students for 5weeks (ugh). Well I finally did, yesterday, after nearly 3weeks.

Well the photos ran out so I guess the words should too.

What a load of nonsense the last part of this post has been.

Changing Skies

The weather here in Cairns is very erratic at the moment but one thing you can guarantee is rain.

Now I know there are many out there champing at the bit to get some rain. They are hoping and praying that it comes soon. I am right there with them, thinking of them. Some have been lucky enough to already get some rain but are in need of more. I am thinking of them to.

One thing is certain it will come pouring down one day, it is just a matter of which one.

Well for Cairns that day was last Saturday. The heavens opened and the wet began. It was a beautiful relief from the hot days before where in other places around Australia it was reaching soaring temperatures of up to 50 degree celsius. Here I believe the recorded top was around 36 degrees however my car thought it was about 43 out in the sun. Add in the lovely Northern humidity and it wasn't too nice.

The skies around here have been interesting to watch, changing so fast. One moment a rainbow the next pouring down then moments later it stops and the sun tries to come out. Today the weather has settled into a drier windier pattern I believe due to the low off the coast but the clouds and the look they bring has still changed with amazing speed.

Out the back, the mountains have disappeared and the frogs are very happy.

I wish I could find that gold.

Minutes later clouds are moving on.

Now we have been seeing more grey skies and rain than sun (which is a pain when you are trying your best to get into a walking habit). I hope this change and the sign the the wet has started means rain is soon to come further inland. Here is to rainy days ahead and dripping gardens and soggy ground and mud and puddles and cool.

I can sing a rainbow

Monday, Monday, Monday was a dreary kinda day. It looked like winter. It didn't feel like it though. Actually this whole week is a lot like that with only patches of sunlight and blue sky.
I managed to see snippits of it from the windows at work between sessions of staring at the screen of a computer at a fellow called A who was training me in how to use the text books put out by Nova. They are pretty simple to work with it seems and there is some room for creativity if I wish ... by the way I wish. It is good to know how the books work though and how they are expected to be used.

Anyhow back to that 'I can sing a rainbow' thing that is going to get stuck in your head.
Yep 'Red and yellow and pink and green, purple and orange and blue. I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow, you can sing a rainbow too'.

At some stage M and I were looking out and noticed this change in the colour of the light over the mountains, well that and the fact that we could see them.
M's question was 'what is that?'  and my very guess like answer 'Umm part of a rainbow I think'.
 

 

 Well a little bit later that what we thought might be part of a rainbow turned into definitely part of a rainbow. A very low rainbow. A very short and wide rainbow. A beautiful bit of coloured light within a dreary kind of day.

The End of the Flooding Rains

We had a total of 189.5mls which was paltry in comparison to the giant falls in other areas.

I know that many experienced or are experiencing losses and hardship and my thoughts and prayers are with them. I know some areas are still waiting for waters to receded while others are waiting for them to arrive. I hope that people stay safe.
