A horny one ...

Things have been busy in my neck of the woods, work and visitors and now traveling to visit family. It has been absolutely awesome, well the visitor, visiting part anyway.
So now I've got you wanting to hear all about it ... I'm not telling, well not yet  anyway.
So remember that weekend trip I went on, we are going back to that. Last stop was Charters Towers.

As per usual we were awake early so I checked the sky, like usual.

The sky was clear and orange was creeping up from the horizon.

Sunrise, I love sunrise. I love watching the sun bring colour and brightness to the world.

Even more I love seeing it from new places or even better from a rural place. Ahhh.

We then headed down town for an early morning sticky beak. I have always loved the buildings in Charters Towers. I love that the town has preserved its history and the streets are lined (particularly the main one) with grand old buildings.

We then headed out of town to another place we've been before.

First off we had morning tea around the chuck wagon.

Our hosts were lovely and funny.

Even the hairy one.

We then got to head off on a wagon ride.

It was a tonne of fun but let me tell you, I don't know how people traveled in these all the time. There is a lot to be said about modern suspension.

Now for those who don't know Leahton Park has a longhorn stud. You can go on a wagon tour or safari to see the cattle. It is a great experience.

Last time we did the safari because it was after their wagon tour season. Once the weather warms up they hang up the harness and let the horses enjoy a leisurely summer.

We got to see the former Guinness World Book record holder for the longest horns, JR. It is now owned by a beast in the U.S.A. His horns are still very impressive.

We got to see some other residents like the highland cattle. Gotta love these teddy bear cattle with their Bieber hair cuts.

We also saw the buffalo ...

and the bison.

We also got to see a sneakily hidden new calf. It has been so long since I have seen one that I wanted to get out and snuggle it.

I loved hanging out in wide open spaces and seeing cattle. I need to get out more, apparently.

It was a great morning with the other visitors and with awesome hosts. Thank you for great hospitality again Leahton Park, maybe we will see you again.

Particularly loved the first image of the single harness horse.

    1. Thanks Fiona! There is something about the Towers that pulls you in I think. I have memories of weekends away and massive shopping there. I am thinking of that image in sepia, very old time. Hope all is well.

    1. Charters is a great place for history and longhorns definitely fit in with it. I love the history as well.
