Saturday Morning Snoozing ...

Snoozing in the sun is the way to go, don't you think.

I recall lazing on the hammock on the veranda in the morning sun in winter or early spring to defrost on weekends and school holidays. I remember sitting on the front steps of my quarters soaking up the morning sun while I ate my breakfast on the weekend, also during winter. I don't do lazing in the sun here, especially now. Very little of the year is cool enough, with weak enough sun that I don't fry immediately but the sun doesn't seem to worry the pelicans on the Esplanade. Neither does the mud. I'm not sure whether I would choose that place for a snooze.

On Saturday I sent some time hanging out on the Esplanade. I amazingly got nice close parking, that was free. I had gone down with the aim of checking out the markets on near the lagoon.

It was nice to wander along the Esplanade, see the sights, enjoy some sun and just relax.

Something that attracted me, and many others around, was the Rainbow Lorikeets hanging out in a few trees along the way.

They were noisy and flitting around all over the tree, flower to flower, arguing over them and then later happily hanging out together.

They are so bright and intelligent looking. They bring a rainbow of screeching and squawking happiness.

I did decide to leave them be after a while, that sun was getting a bit burny and I had markets to get to.

The markets are held on the edge of the lagoon along the Esplanade. They aren't huge although I dare say they ebb and flow in size during the year.

It is a nice spot for it, it looks cool. There were jewels, clothes and some other interesting thing like photos printed onto cotton squares and clay frogs on 'logs' being made on the spot.

Most stalls had a no photos sign up, how not fair.

On the way back along the Esplanade (with a very naughty ice coffee frappe in hand) I stopped to Lorikeet spot again.

Mind you maybe it was them doing the spotting, people spotting.

The pelicans had changed position a bit, some deciding sleeping the morning away was not the way to go.

I then headed to Cairns Central to meet up with a childhood, and current, friend for a very short catch up before she headed back up to Thursday Island. That was nice, it was just good to see each other after far too long. As usual though it was far to short and she had to head off. Next time!

    1. Wow! My mum came here for her honeymoon but now I live here. I hope you had a great time. The Lagoon is pretty memorable, it is free and the only beach like thing without going north or south.

    1. It was a nice morning. I think those pelicans were enjoying their snooze, waiting for the water to come back. Yes I know what you mean about the lorikeets being themselves. They are certainly full of energy. Enjoy your weekend.
