'Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
Merry, merry king of the bush is he.
Laugh kookaburra, laugh kookaburra,
Gay your life must be.'
Marion Sinclair
'Kookaburra sits on the electric wire,
Jumping up and down with his pants on fire.
Laugh kookaburra, laugh kookaburra,
Hot your butt must be.'
'Kookaburra sits on the car's bull bar,
Looking very stunned and not going very far.
Laugh kookaburra, laugh kookaburra,
Sore your head must be.'
Ok, yes I admit it, I made that last verse up.
The other evening when the boss' were coming back from town they hit a Kookaburra, or it hit them. They thought it dead and felt sorry for its demise. Imagine everyone's surprise when they got up the next morning to see a Kookaburra perched on the bull bar behind the spotlight, very much alive although a little stunned.
At smoko time the kids reported seeing the kookaburra jump to the ground and fly up into a nearby tree. Thank goodness for a happy ending as I wasn't relishing the idea of having to feed it during recovery. Day old chicks and mice ewww.
Such a Mr Cool looking character. Fantastic pictures as always. Your photos are always such a pleasure to look at.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lucky escape, that is one tough bird
ReplyDeleteThanks Jacana. Yes he is a cool dude. I noticed when looking up close that he had feathers a bit like the long spindly one on a emu on his head. He was certainly one tough fella.
