We've had some Autumn like looking days here this week, the fog has arrived. Monday morning the fog was thick enough to ask the sunrise but by the time I made up my mind to go and take some photos, most of it had cleared south of the city.

After having fun with dew drops and fog I headed into Gordonvale, to get a photo or two of the mill before they start work. Well they were working, working getting the mill ready for the beginning of the sugar cane harvest. Once the cane starts to flower, things will be full steam ahead.

When I arrived there were passengers waiting to catch a train off the single platform at the station, next to the mill. The Spirit of Queensland was due in at any time, on its way south.
The train was way too long for the platform so they stopped to let the guard off and then moved forward to let the passengers on.
Once the train was gone the station went back to being quiet and deserted, well except for me. We don't have many trains through in the Far North, just this one and ones with all our food and other goods, that I know of.
I then headed to find some pretty flowers which I used for a belated Mother's Day.

wonderful photos...i really love the barbed wire ones and the one with the wildflower! we keep getting nice warm days here and there, followed by cooler yucky days....yesterday afternoon we had a big thunderstorm roll in with some hail even....
ReplyDeleteThank you! We are getting slightly cooler night temps but the days are still warm to hot. Our wet season (summer) didn't really happen this year so it will might be a very dry winter.

DeleteOur weather in Northern California has been weird this past year: dry winter, warm January, wet March, cold April... Strange and a bit bewildering because I lived in the Tropics for thirty years and watched those weather patterns change a huge amount.
ReplyDeleteSugar cane grows in warm places in the USA and Cuba-year round warm. Is that the weather pattern there where you are or do you see a "winter" that freezes?

I live in the tropical North of Australia but sugar cane is grown down a lot of the east coast of Queensland and part of New South Wales. The local joke is that we will have to pull out the winter woollies for the one day of winter. We get a couple of 10 degree C mornings but the days don't normally go much below about 25 degrees C. So up here we don't even make it out of shorts and t-shirts. Further south is a different matter, where I grew up is having a bit of a cool start to the day. So far Autumn has been mild for them. Only the south of Australia, in certain parts, gets snow.
DeleteWe normally have a wet summer and dry winter but this wet season hasn't been very wet.

Thank you! I love barbed wire too, although not when I come into contact with it. It is something that is so harsh but can look so pretty. The dew drops on webs are just the opposite of the wire, which is why they go together so well I guess.

DeleteI can't say fog really has anything to do with any season here, also high humidity for most of the year, but when I see it in the cooler months it at least looks like the season. I hope you stay cool.
Beautiful mountain and sky view. Fantastic shots of the barb wire & dew. We are getting more rain but the weather is still hot.
ReplyDeleteToday has been surprisingly cool, out of the sun anyway, with a cool wind. Cool being 28 degrees C that felt about 3 degrees lower.
