Life as I know it ... today

Life has a way of getting in the way of blogging, doesn't it.

I share a fair bit over on Instagram but find it hard to make it over here to this much loved but neglected space.

Life has been busy but not. Filled with the usual day to day busyness that comes with having a toddler but not all that exciting in scheme of things. Life has changed quite a lot from my time as a governess and my chasing waterfalls days. I don't make it out exploring that much at the moment either.Well, I make it to swimming lessons, mum catch ups, playgroups and to the shops to do the groceries, but really that isn't all that interesting to anyone who isn't a 2 year old, or in my mum's group. Actually, the shopping part isn't even all that interesting to the 2 year old (or me quite frankly, grocery shopping isn't that fun), unless we go to the "fish" shop ... our local Stockland's, that has a giant marlin out the front, which he only likes going to because of the big fish. Coles around the corner however, is an unacceptable shopping location. Probably because he doesn't get to see enough trucks and roadworks to get there.

Pause ...

And now the toddler is no longer painting the table with BBQ sauce and has his requested food and drink.

Ahhh, the glorious life of parenthood.
I do often wonder when those with young kids actually find the time to write those wonderful, insightful posts while not leaving their kids to fend for themselves (aka paint the house with sauce) or eating into their valuable sleeping time. Maybe they don't work at night so actually have that quiet time after their children go to bed. Maybe they just actually have their heads screwed on and don't approach life in a headless chook, winging it fashion, like I do.

Anyway...
I miss this little place of mine, so hopefully I'll be back soon.

Off to see what is frustrating the toddler of the house now.

One year on ...

I haven't blogged much over the last 12 months or so, I guess the little munchkin may have a lot to do with it. It hasn't been just that though, life has seemed to be so much more grit than giggles, grit that I'm not sure I've wanted to share or maybe it is that I figure all grit isn't anyone's cup of tea. I didn't want to be a Debbie Downer. I've missed it, blogging that is, yet I haven't. Then again I have shared a lot of pretty squares over in Instagram to fill the void.

Over the last year I could have written of the tiredness, the mundane, about the child who didn't want to sleep, the screaming, of the feeding issues, about banging my head against a brick wall in regards to finding out why my child was so unhappy, about my health issues, about waiting for appointments, of vomit, of tears and so much more. Some of this may come to the fore yet, but then it may not. Maybe I should have shared, it could have been cathartic, it could have helped.

It hasn't all been bad though, far from it (although some days I look back and feel it was a lot more bad than it should have been). I could have also shared about the fabulous women and mothers I have met, about family trips, of the giggles, smiles, firsts, of going back to work, of the friendships, activities and love. I guess I just couldn't put my heart into it though. Maybe I still will or maybe that chapter is done and dusted. The thing is though that parenting, I have found is all of that. The good and the bad, the grit and the giggles.

Funnily enough, when I first started this blog this was what I had in mind. I was sharing the grit and giggles of daily life on a station but more to the point hoping to share the grit and giggles of working with the children I did. I figured that it might carry over into the grit and giggles of my own family. There has just seemed to be a tropical hiatus in there, but then that has been part of my life too. I've thought, maybe if I start again, a new space to share the heart might come back to it but then I am rather attached to the name and really what I want this blog to be hasn't changed that much, just the location. Anyway a post about what I have learned over this past twelve months is now changing into a description of what this space is about. Maybe that isn't a bad thing though, to remind myself what this space is about so that I want to use it again. Or maybe I just need a cooler alliterated name ( non alliterated). I fear my brain has turned to too much mush for that though.

Sheets and Sugar

I love clean sheets. How about you?
The funny thing is that as a kid it was like hell on earth having to strip and then remake my bed.
Now I'll quiet happily, maybe happily isn't the right word though, remove sheets, wash them and then remake the bed knowing I get to sleep in between clean sheets.
I used to be in the habit of doing them every week and I try to still. Sometimes, I'll admit, it stretches a bit longer, especially during a busy week. It won't kill us.

What I hate is having to wash the quilt cover. You see I only used to do it every few times. There were sheets and a blanket between me and it, its not like it got really dirty. But now I live with someone who doesn't think that top sheet is a necessity. In fact you could take it as far as saying he hates it, and the blanket, thinking I am strange for even bothering with it. Hence needing to wash the quilt cover a lot more. I hate putting it back on, ugh.

See life is so exciting here, can't you tell with all this chat about washing.
I can expand if you want and tell you about the towels, also on a weekly or less washing cycle, or maybe I could tell you about sweeping, vacuuming, mopping and that lucky last exciting chore from yesterday, cleaning the shower.

As discussing my housework isn't really that thrilling, maybe it is time for some photos instead.
Yesterday, Wednesday, morning I went to Holloways beach to take some sunrise snaps but you've seen that before. Well maybe not exactly that but it isn't the first time I've shared Holloways.

But on the way home I got sidetracked (not like me at all) by sugar cane so instead you get that.

You see it has just started flowering. It won't be long until harvest is going full throttle.

I'm hoping for some more awesome harvest photos.

Oh, and maybe I should make sure I am free for Fields of Fire, which I missed last year.

I am sure you will see more cane popping up all over my blog now.

The other thing that I have seen dotted around the place is freshly planted cane paddocks.

It is done before harvest so that it has a chance to grow a bit and put it in line with the rest of the cane for next year. So it is all ready around the same time.

It is a huge contrast to the towering, flowering paddocks of cane.

But I love the lines. I really have this thing about the lines in crops. I hardly ever get to take photos of it though.

So my line-y, feathery photo taking was pretty satisfying.

Add in some sun and sparkle and I was all set.

What wasn't so satisfying was the trip back in to town.

20 to 25km/hr in an 80km/hr zone is not my idea of fun. I'm glad I didn't have the added stress of actually having to be anywhere at any set time included in that.

Oh, and just to show how thrilling my life has been recently, I really want to be where Eddie is. Way to much morning t.v but it is good for adding to my 'want to go' list. By the way Eddie is the weather lady of one of the morning shows. At the moment she is in the Northern Territory but she was just in Western Australia. Both areas I want to explore.

 So how about you?
Are you as thrilled by house work as me? Hint: I'm not, at all.
Or have you been watching way to much morning telly, like me?

Decisions, decisions ...

Exciting things are happening and maybe some big changes, but that would be counting eggs before they hatch and all that. This is what I wrote a bit over a week ago.

I had a phone interview that morning. This was what I wrote ... Now that was a strange experience. You miss the whole body language thing, the non verbal cues. I didn't think I would be so nervous about an interview I could have worn pjs to and no one would have noticed. Don't you hate it though when you think back and go 'I wonder if I gave what they wanted, knew what they wanted?' Well I think I must have somehow, between the nervous thinking and trying to get thoughts straight, given a good impression as I was contacted to have another 'chat' next Monday. Maybe this time I will wear my pjs and bed hair, just because I can. Then again, maybe not, I will have to leave for work as soon as I am done with my morning chat.

I'm feeling nervous and excited about the whole thing but I don't want to let anyone down, including my current job. This leads back to counting chickens before they hatch.

Now we get to this week.
Last Friday I got another phone call with good news. They offered me the job.
Now we really do need to decide. We need to decide if we want to do a long distance relationship for a while. We need to decide if I will move. We need to decide if this is the best thing and I need to decide if it is worth it for a job I've wanted for a long time. I need to decide if this is will make me happy.

Decisions, decisions ...It was something I was a bit excited about but where had the excitement gone?
