Stacking it!

This afternoon I waved goodbye to my sister as she headed back south. Sis G had been up for a few days visiting and just enjoying some family time. I've been enjoying the family time too!

Saturday we did some out and abouting, heading north.

First stop was the stone stacks a bit north of Ellis Beach.
Yep, they are still there, or rebuilt again.

Sis G hadn't visited them before so was pretty keen to go.

I haven't been out and about much recently either, so who was I to say no to some adventuring.
My 12.5hr work days plus travel time don't really leave time for anything as fun as photo taking.

Hanging out with Sis G is always fun and we never know what will happen or come up in conversation.

Sis G will hate me for this one but hey, she is a gorgeous girl, and my sister. So Sis G, here is some proof you were there, on a sweltering spring day.

Getting lots of work at the moment is great, and I am enjoying it but wishing for more sleeping hours. Maybe that 3hr nap this afternoon will help with getting through the week.
Who doesn't love a Sunday nap!

In my Garden

It was a gorgeous day outside today, blue sky, I just wasn't spending much time in that hot sun.
This evening, when I wanted to go out and watch the sunset, it had clouded over.
This morning I had a wander around our garden to see what I could see. It didn't take long, it isn't a very big garden, you know.
I did find some pretties and thinks growing. I also found some tomatoes that something has helped itself to, yet again.

The first of Mr Sparky's hippeastrums has opened

The eggplant is flowering, yet again.

Cherries are growing on the brazillian cherry tree.

The basil is going gangbusters.

Tomatoes are struggling through the heat of the day.

More flowers are coming on, on the pawpaws

The next fortnight is looking to be a crazy one with vacation care and night work.

A Big One

We've had a birthday in our house this week, a big one.

The big 30.

It wasn't mine (thank goodness, not ready for that just yet).

Mr Sparky has now left the 20s and entered the new world of the 30s.

As he said 'so much has happened in his life in the last few years, so much has changed'. I dare say more changes will happen over the coming years. He wouldn't be living life if there weren't.
I did assure him in his Birthday card that he was just becoming a 'classic'.

We did discuss a few weeks ago how old 30 seemed when we were kids. Now, it doesn't seem that old after all, I guess.

I ended up working on his birthday, both day and night, so he had a pretty quiet day. I was home early enough to finish off the very important choc mint Birthday cake and to cook him the steak and chips requested for dinner.

Nothing all that exciting for his 30th it seems.

I think he has 'going out' plans for this weekend, with mates.

Parading at Cairns Festival

This weekend just gone was the start of the Cairns Festival.
I had kind of been hoping I'd be able to make it to the parade and, of cause, the fireworks.

Now the one problem with going to these things is that unless you rock up hours and hours early you have to park half a world away.

The good thing about that is that you never know what you'll see along the way.

Sooo many people had converged on the Esplanade for the parade and following fireworks.

I certainly didn't have the best view but it was still fun to watch along. Lots of colour and sound and some pretty entertaining floats got everyone joining in.

As night came and the parade finished the crowd moved in a wave to the waterfront, looking for good spots to watch the fireworks.

Amazingly the fireworks started on time! Not something that often happens in my experience here.
They were certainly worth the wait too.

I just love fireworks! How about you?
Then it was time for the trek back to the car. It had been a bit nippy waiting down on the Esplanade so the walk was good for a warm up, I guess.

I am hoping to get to some other things but I'll see what happens. This week is pretty busy work wise.
