Back to looking through the window from work

Last week I had a couple of days of one on one lessons or textbook lessons at Nova. This means I usually have one student for a couple of lessons from the text books provided rather than our usual Australia lessons that students can do for 1 or 2 weeks. This time I had a bit of flexibility as she wanted several lessons and not just from the text book so we talked about newspaper articles, world events and The Great Barrier Reef as well.

On Thursday we had our longer day, starting at 10am and doing 5 lessons. As usual what we could see out the window was very interesting and always changing. It was also a great example of the weather for the end of the week.

What is with the balloon I wonder.

Cloudy morning

Showers on the mountains but none in town.

Grey mountains merging into grey clouds

The blue sky, cloud war.

The first time I can recall being able to see a boat out of the water from work.

It must have been a good day to be on the water.

Heavy clouds raining on the mountains in in the south.

Another fire started.

I love watching cloud change the mood.

The sunny weather is back but this occasional attempt to rain tells me the wet must be coming soon. Even the tropical north has dried out and it ready for a good wet. I think they are predicting 4 cyclones for this area and that one will hit land. Lets see how right they are. Also stinger season has started with already a few points to the jelly fish, they believe one was those dreadful irukandji, I feel sorry for that person. Crocodiles are also on the move and being spotted on the beaches and near beaches looking for a mate. Never dull in the north I believe. I think I might stay clear of the water for now, I'd prefer to stay clear of these locals although a pic of a croc in the wild would be pretty cool.

More mentions (some very brief) of stingers and crocs here and here and here and here and definitely a crocodile one here.

  1. Do you enjoy life in Cairns Anne?
    What exactly is Nova?

    1. Hi Fiona, Cairns has grown on me and I try to make the best of it. It is different to anywhere I've been before. It took about a year for me to sleep properly. The weather in winter is really good but summer is a killer. I love the natural environment and the easy access to some amazing places. Nova is a Japan based language school. We teach English to Japanese students of all different ages but mostly adults. They come over to Cairns for 1 or 2 weeks of lessons. I don't think we will be here too much longer, maybe a year at the most and then it is time to get out of the city.

  2. Great photo's and what an excellent outlook from that window of yours! I love it up at Nth Qld but I don't think I could live there because I don't handle the heat even here in Brisbane. I've been up as far as Daintree. :-)

    1. It is a great view from work and I love watching the busy boats. I don't like the weather much here either, far to humid and summer is just yuck, mind you I feel it hasn't been so hot this year so far. I was down in Brisbane a couple of weeks ago and I was actually glad to get back up here, it was so hot and humid, it was near the last hot spell. I need to do another Daintree trip. I love the natural things around here. Thanks for looking in.

    1. Thanks. I think you could be right although a 1 balloon party sounds more fun.

    1. I thought that too when I looked at the pics. I love watching the clouds change. I'm steering clear of ocean swimming and sticking to the pool for now although I would go for some fresh water swimming at a nice waterfall.

  5. Love your photos with this blog. They make me want to pick up a paintbrush! Don't know if I could do them justce however. Very hot here in Central Qld also so the water looks extra tempting. Best wishes Barb

    1. Thank you. I would love to see what you come up with if you put your brush to work. I bet it has been hot, it has been here and we aren't really getting the heat wave as such. Hope you find a cool spot.
