Despite being close to the area for a few years I had never been to the Burdekin Weir at Charters Towers. A bit slack really.
Well now I can tick it off.
We headed to the weir in the late afternoon. It seemed to be pretty popular with people and birds.
There were pelicans, egrets, darters, ducks and black kites as well as plenty of fishing gear.
I could have spent ages there and returned time and time again. Maybe I will get to.
But for now I am just going to look back at photos and let them do the talking for me. A picture is worth a 1000 words, or so they say. So relax and enjoy the view.
I have missed this smell so much, soo sweet. |
I do love the coloring of your Australian Pelicans. Those black on white feathers are very striking. Your kangaroos are really cute too. Hopefully I will get to see them myself one day and not in a zoo. Great series of photos :)
ReplyDelete@DeniseinVA ... I love seeing that there are different ones because we only get this type. I would love to see them for real. Thank you!
DeleteGorgeous shots!
ReplyDelete@Mama Zen ... Thanks!

I meant to say I love your title as well, it made me smile and I knew it had to be Aussie.

@Diana ... Thank you. It certainly is a big country with so much I want to see.
DeleteA great series of photos and it looks like a really nice place to visit. The photos are great and I really like the ones showing the pelicans, egrets and cormorants all fishing where the water is rushing around the rocks.
ReplyDelete@Mick ... Thank you. I liked the birds on the rocks with the water rushing past to. I also love how something man made is treated like it has always been there by the wildlife.
DeleteSome amazing landscape there and great wildlife too.
ReplyDelete@Adam ... It is a beautiful place.
DeleteOh, that's so lovely to see new places !!
ReplyDeleteYour shots are fantastic !!
Greetings
@Ela ... Thank you! I love seeing old and new places.
DeleteA great variety of photos. I would be right there with you for days watching the wildlife and taking pictures!!
ReplyDelete@bettyl-NZ ... Thanks. Ah someone after my own heart.
DeleteSuch a lovely view. I enjoy seeing those pelicans. Isn't it strange how we have things near us that we never seem to get to. I try to get to those places just so I can see. I take the long way or the back roads. My husband...not so much.
ReplyDelete@Rebecca ... It was. It is strange how we don't look around our area. Sometimes it is good to play tourist in your own area. My other half sounds like yours although he does like going and looking around other places on weekends just not looking around his own place.
DeleteBeautiful photography. The lighting is gorgeous and just brings out so much colour in the landscape. Love it!
ReplyDelete@countrymum ... Thank you. I do love that winter evening light, it turns a rugged yet beautiful landscape to magic.
DeleteThis looks like a marvelous place to visit. And how nice to see Pelicans around a damn like structure. very cool. I bet it's beautiful in the fall!
ReplyDelete@Chris ... It was beautiful, especially at that time of day. It wouldn't look much different in Autumn as most Australian natives aren't deciduous. This was taken in winter. If there is a good wet season/ summer then the area would green up.
DeleteLoving all your gorgeous photos of the local birdlife there Anne - simply beautiful x
ReplyDelete@kirsty ... Thank you! It was unexpected to see all the birds and they made it even more awesome.
DeleteBeautiful image, the blue of the sky is so strong
ReplyDeletemollyxxx
@molly ... Thanks. The clear winter sky is beautiful.
